The Best Time to Visit Koh Phangan

Weather, seasons and the moon — when to come, and what to expect.

The Best Time to Visit Koh Phangan — Koh Phangan, Thailand

Koh Phangan is good year-round, but the weather and the crowds shift a lot through the year. Here’s how to pick your window.

Dry season (roughly December–April)

The most reliable weather: sunny days, calmer seas and the best snorkelling. December to February is a touch cooler and the busiest stretch, so book stays early. This is prime time for the remote beaches and boat trips under Tours & Nature.

Hot season (March–May)

Hotter and more humid, but still mostly dry and a little quieter between party dates. Good value, and the wellness scene in Sri Thanu hums all year.

Green season (roughly October–November)

The Gulf coast gets its heaviest rain in the late year — expect short, intense downpours rather than all-day grey. Everything is lush, prices drop, and the island feels local again. Pack light rain gear and keep ferry timings flexible, as rough seas occasionally delay boats.

Plan around the moon

Whatever month you choose, the Full Moon Party sets the island’s rhythm — see the party guide and our live What’s On calendar, then decide whether you want to be in the thick of it or a quiet bay away.
