Beaches Worth the Bumpy Road

From hidden coves to the calm sands of the north.

Beaches Worth the Bumpy Road — Koh Phangan, Thailand

Koh Phangan’s best beaches take a little effort — a bumpy track, a longtail boat, a short hike — and that’s exactly why they stay beautiful. A few favourites:

The remote north

Bottle Beach (Haad Khuat) is reachable only by boat or a jungle trek, and it’s worth both. Nearby Haad Khom is a sheltered, boulder-framed cove with clear water. See every beach compared in our beach guide.

West-coast sunsets

Zen Beach near Sri Thanu is the island’s sunset ritual — people gather in the shallows every evening. Salad Beach and Hin Kong stretch out nearby with calm, shallow water and wide-open horizons.

Snorkelling at Koh Ma

At Mae Haad, a natural sandbar connects the shore to the islet of Koh Ma at low tide — the island’s best easy snorkelling, with healthy coral just off the sand. Want to go deeper? Local dive shops like Blue Horizon Diving and Haad Yao Divers run trips to Sail Rock.

Quiet by the resorts

If you’d rather not chase a track, the gentle bays of Thong Nai Pan front the island’s top resorts — see Hotels & Stays. And if your trip lands near a full moon, plan your beach days around the Full Moon Party, or trade sand for the island’s wellness scene.
