Zipline on Koh Phangan

Jungle canopy aerial view on Koh Phangan

Most of Koh Phangan's famous activities happen at sea level: diving, snorkelling, kitesurfing, beach yoga. The island's interior is a different world — a dense spine of tropical jungle that rises to 627 metres at Khao Ra and covers almost the entire centre of the island with forest, waterfalls and ridgeline trails that most visitors never reach.

The zipline above Sri Thanu is the most accessible entry point into that world. You don't need to hike, climb or navigate a trail — the platforms carry you into the canopy and the lines carry you across it. The views from altitude give you the whole sweep of the island at once: the forested interior in every direction, and on clear days the west coast and the Gulf of Thailand through gaps in the trees.

It is also consistently one of the most-enjoyed activities across all visitor types on the island — families, couples, solo travellers, groups. Adventure activities that work for everyone are rarer than they look, and the zipline is one of the few on Koh Phangan that genuinely earns the label.

What the zipline offers

Sri Thanu hills · Jungle views · All ages

Fly over the jungle canopy

Phangan Zipline runs a tree-canopy course in the hills above Sri Thanu — a network of platforms and zip lines that carries you over dense tropical forest, with sweeping views of the island's interior and glimpses of the coast beyond. Guides are stationed at each platform and safety equipment is provided throughout, so the focus is entirely on the ride and the jungle around you. No prior experience is needed. It's widely described by visitors as the most memorable all-ages activity on the island, and the combination of height, speed and green hillside backdrop makes it feel unlike any beach activity on Koh Phangan.

A family and group activity

The zipline works for a broad range of visitors: families with older children, couples looking for something different from another beach day, and groups who want a shared high-point to anchor a trip. Because guides manage each station and safety equipment is provided, there is no demand on prior skill — the course does the work for you. Many families on the island build a jungle day around the zipline, pairing it with a morning waterfall trail or a scooter loop through the island interior before arriving in the hills for the afternoon session.

The Sri Thanu hills — jungle meets wellness coast

The zipline sits in the hills above Sri Thanu, the island's wellness village on the west coast. Below the course, Sri Thanu runs along the coast with yoga shalas, wholefood cafes and the island's most-watched sunsets. You can use the afternoon zipline as the second half of a wider day: a slow wellness morning in Sri Thanu village, then up into the hills for the adrenaline counterpoint, followed by a sunset from the beach below. The location is reachable by scooter from most bases on the island — Thong Sala, Hin Kong, Haad Yao and Chaloklum are all a reasonable ride away.

Build a full jungle day — waterfalls and the summit trail

The zipline is the most accessible way into the island's jungle interior, but it pairs naturally with the waterfalls and summit trails that most island-hoppers never quite reach. Phaeng Noi Waterfall is the most visited in the national park interior and is a short trail from the road — best after rain when the cascade is running properly. For a bigger commitment, the Khao Ra summit trail at 627 metres is a proper jungle hike to a ridge-top panorama over both coasts. Both work as a morning activity before an afternoon zipline, or vice versa. This is the adventure day most visitors look back on as the one that showed them a different island.

Zipline on Koh Phangan, answered

Is the zipline suitable for children and families?
+
Yes. Phangan Zipline is one of the most family-friendly activities on Koh Phangan — safety equipment is provided, guides are stationed at every platform and no prior experience is needed. Families with older children regularly list it as a highlight of their trip. Check with the operator in advance about any minimum age or size requirements, as these can vary.
Where is the zipline and how do I get there?
+
The course is in the hills above Sri Thanu on Koh Phangan's west coast. A scooter is the most practical way to get there — the route from Thong Sala runs north along the main west-coast road through Hin Kong and into Sri Thanu, then up into the hills. Taxis and songthaews can also reach the area from the main south-coast route. Allow time for the hillside approach, which is steep in sections.
Do I need any experience or training?
+
No experience is required. The zipline is set up for first-timers: guides brief you at each platform, fit your harness and release you when you're ready. The course is designed so the technique involved is minimal — the platform staff handle the technical side. Wear closed-toe shoes with grip, and bring sunscreen and water for afterwards.
What should I wear and bring?
+
Closed-toe shoes with grip are important — sandals and flip-flops are not suitable for the platforms. Wear clothing you can move in comfortably. Bring sunscreen, water, and secure any loose items (phones, hats) before each run. A small daypack or a bag that can be strapped securely works better than a shoulder bag.
What else is near the zipline for a full day out?
+
The zipline sits in the Sri Thanu hills, so the area lends itself to a broader jungle day. Phaeng Noi Waterfall is a short drive away in the national park interior — best paired with the zipline as a morning trail followed by an afternoon course, or vice versa. The Khao Ra summit trail starts from the central interior for those who want the island's highest viewpoint. Below the hills, Sri Thanu village has excellent wholefood cafes and a strong yoga scene for a slow finish to the day.
