The road from Thong Sala over the mountain has been significantly improved and takes roughly 30–45 minutes. The payoff is one of the island's most beautiful bays: two arcs of soft sand, calm water, jungle-backed headlands and the island's top resort properties — Santhiya and Anantara Rasananda — right on the water. The northeast coast is quieter and more upmarket than the west or south, with fewer scooters and a slower pace. The trade-off is more isolation and more distance from the wellness scene on the west coast.
