Mae Haad is one of the prettiest beaches on the northwest coast and doubles as the only place you can walk across the sea: at low tide, a natural sandbar stretches from the beach to the small Koh Ma islet, knee-deep or less all the way across. Snorkelling around the islet turns up healthy coral and clear water, and it's considerably less crowded than the famous south-coast spots. The beach itself is calm and good for swimming in high season. Easily reached by scooter or taxi from Chaloklum or Sri Thanu.
