Festivals on Koh Phangan
Koh Phangan has a reputation built on the Full Moon Party, but the festival calendar extends far beyond a single monthly beach party. Two distinct event cultures run in parallel on the island: the outdoor party circuit that follows the moon through the jungle venues of Ban Tai and the beach at Haad Rin, and the Thai cultural year that brings water festivals in April, floating lanterns in autumn, and the quiet observances of the Buddhist calendar throughout.
The party circuit is unusually dense for a small island. The Full Moon Party, Jungle Experience, Half Moon Festival and Waterfall Party together mean there is something in the calendar most weeks of each month. The events are related but distinct — the beach party and the jungle events attract overlapping but different crowds, and each has its own production format and musical character.
Running alongside both is the wellness community's own lunar calendar: monthly sound healing ceremonies, new moon cacao circles, fire gatherings and ecstatic dance events that happen at centres across Sri Thanu every week. Visitors who come for the parties and those who come for the wellness retreats often discover the other calendar during a longer stay.
